Are certifications worth it while job hunting? - what worked for you?

I am considering a short certificate to improve my chances as an administrative assistant. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. I can study evenings.

Ask the course provider how many graduates get jobs and where. Honest providers can tell you.

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it last year, and it got easier once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
