Are certifications worth it while job hunting? - what worked for you?

A local college offers a course that costs $100. I am in Madison, in case local advice matters. I would like to use funding if possible. Did a certificate help you get hired?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
