Are certifications worth it while job hunting? - what worked for you?

A local college offers a course that costs $100. I am in Birmingham, in case local advice matters. I am unsure whether employers value it. Did a certificate help you get hired?

A hands-on course with a project helped more than a purely online one.

The workforce centre told me about training funds I qualified for. It covered most of my course.
