Are certifications worth it while job hunting? - what worked for you?

I am considering a short certificate to improve my chances as a bank teller. It has been weighing on me all week. I am unsure whether employers value it. Is there free funding?

The workforce centre told me about training funds I qualified for. It covered most of my course.
