Are certifications worth it while job hunting? - what worked for you?

I am considering a short certificate to improve my chances as a copywriter. This is my first time dealing with any of this. I would like to use funding if possible. Did a certificate help you get hired?

A hands-on course with a project helped more than a purely online one.
