Are certifications worth it while job hunting? - what worked for you?

A local college offers a course that costs $450. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. I am unsure whether employers value it. Which ones are overrated?

The workforce centre told me about training funds I qualified for. It covered most of my course.
