Are certifications worth it while job hunting? (update)

A local college offers a course that costs $900. I am in Minneapolis, in case local advice matters. I can study evenings. Did a certificate help you get hired?

Check a dozen job postings first. If most ask for the same certificate, it is probably worth it.
