Are certifications worth it while job hunting? (update)

I am considering a short certificate to improve my chances as a security officer. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. I am unsure whether employers value it.

The workforce centre told me about training funds I qualified for. It covered most of my course.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
