Are certifications worth it while job hunting? (update)

I am considering a short certificate to improve my chances as a pharmacy technician. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. I am unsure whether employers value it. Is there free funding?

Check a dozen job postings first. If most ask for the same certificate, it is probably worth it.
