Are certifications worth it while job hunting? (Spokane)

I am considering a short certificate to improve my chances as a machine operator. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. I am unsure whether employers value it. Is there free funding?

The workforce centre told me about training funds I qualified for. It covered most of my course.
