Are certifications worth it while job hunting? (Sacramento)

I am considering a short certificate to improve my chances as a sales associate. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. I would like to use funding if possible. Did a certificate help you get hired?

Check a dozen job postings first. If most ask for the same certificate, it is probably worth it.
