Are certifications worth it while job hunting? (Pittsburgh)

A local college offers a course that costs $550. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. I can study evenings. Did a certificate help you get hired?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
