Are certifications worth it while job hunting? - first time posting

I am considering a short certificate to improve my chances as an IT help-desk technician. I have been trying to stay organised about it. I am unsure whether employers value it. Is there free funding?

The workforce centre told me about training funds I qualified for. It covered most of my course.
