Are certifications worth it while job hunting? - first time posting

I am considering a short certificate to improve my chances as a retail manager. It has been a long 19 weeks. I would like to use funding if possible. Which ones are overrated?

A hands-on course with a project helped more than a purely online one.

Check a dozen job postings first. If most ask for the same certificate, it is probably worth it.
