Are certifications worth it while job hunting? (Birmingham)

I am considering a short certificate to improve my chances as an electrician's helper. I am in Birmingham, in case local advice matters. I can study evenings. Which ones are overrated?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it last year, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.

The workforce centre told me about training funds I qualified for. It covered most of my course.
