Are certifications worth it while job hunting? - any advice?

A local college offers a course that costs $400. I do not usually post, so bear with me. I would like to use funding if possible. Is there free funding?

The workforce centre told me about training funds I qualified for. It covered most of my course.

A hands-on course with a project helped more than a purely online one.
