Are certifications worth it while job hunting? - any advice?

I am considering a short certificate to improve my chances as a mechanic. I am unsure whether employers value it. Which ones are overrated?

Ask the course provider how many graduates get jobs and where. Honest providers can tell you.

Check a dozen job postings first. If most ask for the same certificate, it is probably worth it.
