Are certifications worth it while job hunting? - any advice?

I am considering a short certificate to improve my chances as an administrative assistant. This is my first time dealing with any of this. I can study evenings. Is there free funding?

Check a dozen job postings first. If most ask for the same certificate, it is probably worth it.
