Are certifications worth it while job hunting? - any advice?

I am considering a short certificate to improve my chances as a graphic designer. It has been weighing on me all week. I can study evenings. Did a certificate help you get hired?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.

Check a dozen job postings first. If most ask for the same certificate, it is probably worth it.
