Are certifications worth it while job hunting? after 7 years as an IT help-desk technician

I saw that many postings ask for a specific certification. This is my first time dealing with any of this. I would like to use funding if possible. Which ones are overrated?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
