Are certifications worth it while job hunting? after 4 years as a machine operator

I saw that many postings ask for a specific certification. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. I would like to use funding if possible. Did a certificate help you get hired?

A hands-on course with a project helped more than a purely online one.
