Are certifications worth it while job hunting? after 18 years as an IT help-desk technician

I am considering a short certificate to improve my chances as an IT help-desk technician. I would like to use funding if possible. Is there free funding?

The workforce centre told me about training funds I qualified for. It covered most of my course.
