Are certifications worth it while job hunting? - 8 weeks in

I saw that many postings ask for a specific certification. It has been a long 8 weeks. I am unsure whether employers value it. Did a certificate help you get hired?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
