Are certifications worth it while job hunting?

I am considering a short certificate to improve my chances as a teaching assistant. There are 8 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. I am unsure whether employers value it. Did a certificate help you get hired?

Ask the course provider how many graduates get jobs and where. Honest providers can tell you.
