9-month résumé gap, advice? - what worked for you?

I have been out of work for 9 months and worry about the gap. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. I am not sure how much to explain. How did you handle it on your résumé?

I was hired after a 9-month gap. The manager said the skills test mattered more than the dates.

A short, honest line such as 'family caregiving' is enough for most employers. They mostly want to know you are ready now.
