9-month résumé gap, advice? after 7 years as a medical assistant

I took time out to care for a family member after working as a medical assistant. Any experience at all would help. I am nervous about being filtered out. What do you say in interviews?

Keep your skills fresh and mention anything recent. It shows momentum.

I listed the volunteering and course under the same dates and kept the explanation to a sentence in the cover letter.
