4-month résumé gap, advice? - what worked for you?

I have been out of work for 4 months and worry about the gap. There are 17 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. I am not sure how much to explain. Did anyone get past it?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 4 months ago, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
