14-month résumé gap, advice? (update)

I took time out to care for a family member after working as an accountant. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. I am not sure how much to explain. What do you say in interviews?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it last year, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
