Work-search log: how detailed does it need to be? - what worked for you?

I have been applying to about 17 jobs a week as a security officer, but I am unsure what my state wants in the log. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. Some days I only network by email or attend a job fair. Do interviews and workshops count?

I was asked for my log once, after six months. Having it in a spreadsheet made it painless.
