Work-search log: how detailed does it need to be?

I am keeping a spreadsheet of applications, but I worry it is not what the agency expects. I am in Spokane, in case local advice matters. My state says to keep records for a year. What do you record?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
