Work-search log: how detailed does it need to be?

I am keeping a spreadsheet of applications, but I worry it is not what the agency expects. There are 9 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. My state says to keep records for a year.

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it last year, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.

I was asked for my log once, after six months. Having it in a spreadsheet made it painless.
