Work-search log: how detailed does it need to be? (Boston)

I am keeping a spreadsheet of applications, but I worry it is not what the agency expects. Any experience at all would help. I also did a résumé workshop at the library. What do you record?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 4 months ago, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
