Work-search log: how detailed does it need to be? after 4 years as an IT help-desk technician

I am keeping a spreadsheet of applications, but I worry it is not what the agency expects. Any experience at all would help. I also did a résumé workshop at the library. Has anyone been audited?

I was asked for my log once, after six months. Having it in a spreadsheet made it painless.
