Severance and unemployment, do they overlap? - what worked for you?

I was offered severance of 11 weeks after being let go as a project coordinator and I am unsure how it affects benefits. I also wonder about the job-search requirement. Who should I ask before signing?

Some states only count certain kinds of severance. A local workforce centre could tell me which.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
