Severance and unemployment, do they overlap? - first time posting

I was offered severance of 16 weeks after being let go as a graphic designer and I am unsure how it affects benefits. There are 16 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. I also wonder about the job-search requirement. Who should I ask before signing?

Some states only count certain kinds of severance. A local workforce centre could tell me which.
