Severance and unemployment, do they overlap? - 9 months and counting

I was offered severance of 5 weeks after being let go as a social media manager and I am unsure how it affects benefits. I also wonder about the job-search requirement. Did you file straight away?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 9 months ago, and it got easier once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
