Is COBRA worth it after a layoff? after 7 years as a store manager

I was offered COBRA and the monthly cost is more than I expected as a store manager. It has been weighing on me all week. My spouse has a chronic condition, so dropping coverage feels risky. Did anyone switch mid-year?
