Is COBRA worth it after a layoff? after 5 years as a retail manager

I was offered COBRA and the monthly cost is more than I expected as a retail manager. I am in Boise, in case local advice matters. My spouse has a chronic condition, so dropping coverage feels risky. Did anyone switch mid-year?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
