Is COBRA worth it after a layoff? - 8 months and counting

The COBRA quote for my family is $500 a month and I do not know how to afford it. There are 13 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. I saw that marketplace plans might cost less. Is the decision time really that tight?

Check what the notice says about the election period and when coverage starts. Mine allowed a short window to choose.

If you have a planned treatment, COBRA can make sense for a few months. Otherwise look at the marketplace first.
