Health insurance gap after a layoff after 7 years as an office manager

My family's coverage ended with the layoff and we have a prescription we cannot skip. I am in Chicago, in case local advice matters. The COBRA notice arrived with a very high price.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
