Health insurance gap after a layoff - 10 weeks in

My family's coverage ended with the layoff and we have a prescription we cannot skip. It has been a long 10 weeks. I do not want a gap in coverage. What did you choose and how was the process?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
