Got severance, how does it affect benefits? after 6 years as a marketing coordinator

I was offered severance of 6 weeks after being let go as a marketing coordinator and I am unsure how it affects benefits. Any experience at all would help. I also wonder about the job-search requirement. How did your state treat it?
