Got severance, how does it affect benefits? after 12 years as a call-centre agent

My employer is paying severance in instalments and I am not sure whether to file now. I have a mortgage and need to plan. How did your state treat it?

Some states only count certain kinds of severance. A local workforce centre could tell me which.
