Got severance, how does it affect benefits? - 6 months and counting

I signed a severance agreement and I am worried about how to report it. There are 5 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. I have a mortgage and need to plan. Did you file straight away?

Some states only count certain kinds of severance. A local workforce centre could tell me which.
