Got severance, how does it affect benefits? - 23 weeks in

I was offered severance of 5 weeks after being let go as a mechanic and I am unsure how it affects benefits. I have been trying to stay organised about it. I have a mortgage and need to plan. Who should I ask before signing?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
