Does severance delay my unemployment claim? - what worked for you?

I was offered severance of 6 weeks after being let go as a logistics coordinator and I am unsure how it affects benefits. I have a mortgage and need to plan.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
