Does severance delay my unemployment claim? - what worked for you?

I signed a severance agreement and I am worried about how to report it. I am in Charlotte, in case local advice matters. I also wonder about the job-search requirement. Who should I ask before signing?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
