Does severance delay my unemployment claim? - any advice?

I signed a severance agreement and I am worried about how to report it. I worked as a software tester before this. I have a mortgage and need to plan. Did you file straight away?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
