Does severance delay my unemployment claim? after 6 years as a dental hygienist

I was offered severance of 6 weeks after being let go as a dental hygienist and I am unsure how it affects benefits. I have been trying to stay organised about it. I have a mortgage and need to plan. Did you file straight away?
