Does severance delay my unemployment claim? after 12 years as an accountant

I was offered severance of 12 weeks after being let go as an accountant and I am unsure how it affects benefits. There are 12 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. I have a mortgage and need to plan. How did your state treat it?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
